Planting Seeds of Wonder: Howell Elementary School’s Astronomy and Agriculture Appreciation Day

Tucson, Arizona – Peter Howell Elementary School is gearing up for an extraordinary event that merges cultural exploration with scientific discovery. On April 11th, the school will host Astronomy and Agriculture Appreciation Day featuring retired astronaut, Robert “Hoot” Gibson. This will be followed by a special visit from Dr. Mae Hey and the Som do Sisal Orchestra on April 18th. This dual celebration promises to ignite curiosity, inspire creativity, and foster a deeper understanding of our world and beyond.

Astronomy and Agriculture Appreciation Day will kick off with the unveiling of the pioneering Space Garden project—a collaborative initiative between Howell Elementary, Taking Up Space, NASA JPL Solar System Ambassador Christina Wenks, and Edge of Space Missions & Beyond. Students will have the unique opportunity to plant seeds that have traveled beyond Earth’s atmosphere, sparking conversations about space exploration, agriculture, and the interconnectedness of life on our planet.
